NFPA 410 Standard on Aircraft Maintenance

The scope of this standard is as follows
(1) This standard covers the minimum requirements for fire safety to be followed during aircraft maintenance and does not include the health and safety requirements for personnel involved in aircraft maintenance.
(2) The operations covered include the following (a) Maintenance of electrical systems (b) Maintenance of oxygen systems (c) Fuel tank repairing, cleaning, painting, and paint removal (d) Welding operations in hangars (e) Interior cleaning (f) Refurbishing operations
(3) This standard also covers requirements for fire protection of aircraft ramp areas.

NFPA 410 Standard on Aircraft Maintenance addresses fire protection criteria for all maintenance activities conducted inside an aircraft hangar including
· Aircraft fuel systems
· Welding operations
· Painting of aircraft
Important revisions in the 2010 NFPA 410 address fire safety issues.
NFPA 410 has been revised to ensure workers have appropriate fire protection equipment in the immediate location of aircraft maintenance operations. New provisions require that extinguishers shall be provided for aircraft maintenance operations in accordance with NFPA 10 Standard for Portable Fire Extinguishers and as required by the AHJ for operations such as electrical maintenance, aircraft cleaning, and fuel transfer.
