NFPA 1003 Standard for Airport Fire Fighter Professional Qualifications identifies the minimum job performance requirements for the airport fire fighter responsible for Aircraft Rescue and Fire Fighting (ARFF). Entrance requirements are covered. NFPA 1003 presents a detailed description of the job performance requirements, divided into four major duties response, fire suppression, rescue, and post-emergency operations.

The 2010 edition of NFPA 1003

·   Adds a skills maintenance requirement.

·   Removes the PrPPE requirement in favor of a Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) requirement

·   Removed requirements in Chapter 5 that are duplicated in NFPA 1001.

·   Clarifies the Theoretical Critical Area (TCA) and provides instruction on using formulas.
