在國際海域航行的船舶都要遵循SOLAS（海上生命安全公約）的規(guī)定，船舶包含輪船，艦艇等等。由于船舶發(fā)生火災(zāi)時不易逃生，其材料的防火性能特別受關(guān)注。

EU（歐盟）和USCG（美國海岸警衛(wèi)隊）規(guī)定所有用于船舶的材料都要進行防火測試和MED船舶認證，并且只認可通報認證機構(gòu)頒發(fā)的報告證書，測試根據(jù)標準IMO MSC 307（88）進行。
